So neat! I find I remember so much more about a scene when I draw it, not only the visual details but the environment, mood, surroundings as I draw. What a great way to make a memory.
Cool trip! Would love to stay in that lighthouse some time! It’s so rewarding to slow down just a bit and sketch — I’m always struck by the way it helps me see and remember the feelings and details and even the smells. These days, having rediscovered drawing for myself after 40 years in design and photo journalism, I almost feel more lost without a small sketchbook in my pocket than I do without my phone!
I really like your travel drawings. Inspiring. A question: what technique do you use for colouring? It looks to me like a combination of strokes and smudges, but I can't figure out what you use as your source materials for colouring.
Thanks, Bill. No, I don't see it as cheating. Your colouring technique works well. It adds perspective and creates mood. I like it. As I will be travelling soon and would like to do a few sketches of my own, I'm looking for ideas. I won't have colour with me, so will have to work on shading techniques.
Just awesome! I have always wanted to go to Wales as it was the birthplace of many of my ancestors. Perhaps one day. Traditions are always so fun & interesting. Thank you for sharing. Love the sword.

Couldn't agree more. thx. Lauren.
How romantic, staying in a lighthouse.

Have a great drawing summer!
I so admire drawers & painters, who sketch on the go. Inspiring. I just don't. I do take photos for scrap back in my studio.
I think the key is to observe (intensely and intentionally)....whether it's a drawing or a photograph.
Lovely & Lucky you! Are you/were you able to catch a Wrexham game?
Nope. Wrexham is up near Liverpool.
Lovely!

Thx. Renato. Made these Cardiff drawings in pen, then later scanned and did some ProCreate magic on them. Is that cheating?

Bring your iPad on your travels, Renato. Take a clear photo of your sketch and shade/color it using ProCreate or other digital drawing app. Good luck!

Thanks. Welsh culture goes deep. Go visit! ...and draw.
